Valentine’s Day 1997 was a big deal for me. I had accepted a job at 98 PXY two weeks earlier and I was about to leave everything I knew and held dear to me behind to embark on a new life adventure.

What I didn’t anticipate were the rewards that would come with taking such a risk. Initially, my plan was to live in Rochester for 3 years maximum. Instead, I met my best friend, succeeded in maintaining a career, built a home, built a family, and found a quality of life people foreign to Upstate New York struggle to understand.

So, there I was. A 22 year old in a new environment where I don’t know anyone save for the individuals I met through the interview process. I did what I think anyone in my shoes would do; I poured myself into work.

Man, did we have some fun.

I have so many lasting memories from that first year in my adopted home town, but the music I think stays with me the most. Pop music was hitting a crescendo and the success we had as a team went unmatched for many years. Here are 40 of the songs that defined PXY in 1997.

Will Smith “Men In Black” is a blatant omission. I still haven’t forgiven him for that Karate Kid reboot. Horrible.
