I owe a lot to John Hutchings. John owns the Downtown Fitness Club here in Rochester. He’s someone I’ve been friends with for over 15 years. John introduced me to a lifestyle with frequent exercise and a healthier diet. Because of John, I was able to train for, and complete, a handful of 5k and 10k races along with a couple of half marathons and full marathons for good measure.
I have a ton of respect for individuals in Rochester’s fitness communities. One, if I didn’t, they could rip my limbs off, but mainly it’s the mental discipline that goes into living their lifestyle.
John approached me a few weeks ago about doing a radio show where we talk to members of different fitness circles on the air. A show that may in some way inspire its listeners to push themselves beyond their own limits. I’m in.
Fitness Edge Radio will air Saturday mornings at 9:00 on 950 AM here in Rochester, but from time to time I’ll be sharing segments that we’ve recorded right here.
I’ve been playing more hockey for the past 6 months or so and to say some of my fondest memories revolve around the sport would be an understatement. When John booked Frederick Roy for the show, I got a little giddy. Not only am I a fan of his contributions to the AHL’s Rochester Americans, his father is arguably the greatest NHL Goaltender ever.
Take a listen to our conversation with Fred Roy as we discuss his health and fitness habits, the life of a professional athlete, and growing up with a legend for a father.
